Many thanks to everyone who rolled their sleeves up and helped on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
They were all busy times for the Club. although Sat and Sunday were not strictly about WSM rfc (juniors apart), there was heaps to be done and certain members rallied around in all sorts of ways, whether Kitchen,Catering, Barbecues, Gate keeping, Bars, Raffles etc.
Cheerssss everyone.

Well done to the U13s for the fantastic win over Clevedon today. That's the way to play lads, lots of committment and working for each other. That was the best I have seen you play and it was brilliant to watch. Lots of work to do so hope you all turn up for training next Sunday. WELL DONE

Thanks for a very enjoyable game yesterday, (12/01/08), against your fourths. A great game, played, (apart from a few excitable chaps from both sides, getting their knickers in a twist!), in the spirit intended. I hope your injured players recover ok, especially the Army chap, who had a "log run" on Monday!

Thanks again.

I would like to say impressed I was with Weston 1st XV performance on Saturday. I think that the team you field has a lot of talent in both forwards and backs. I was very impressed with the scrum, the front row were a huge handful.

I hope to see another game or two before the end of the season. Good luck not that you will need it based on what I saw.

Is anyone available to help a good cause on this saturday morning ( 1/12). A charity, Operation Christmas Child, needs some help to load present - filled shoeboxes onto a lorry. Last year over 1.24million boxes were sent to children in 12 different countries from the UK alone. The lorry arrives at 9am at Home and Office ( the old Nightingales in Town opposite Tescos), so if you could spare an hour or so, please could you give me a call on 07949 349067 so that I can let the organisers know how many people to expect.

MEMBERSHIP DUES......

The Committee is getting frustrated with trying to gather in membership fees. There are always a few that don't/won't pay!!!

Please note that the Club is not operating a charity....neither are the members that have paid their dues willingly subbing those that haven't!!!

It is quite easy....forms are available from behind the bar.

From the 10/11/07...Membership cards will be checked at the gate. Those that cannot show proof of membership will be charged as normal.

NB*** Social Membership does NOT include free entry to first team games. There are some folk who for one reason or another (perhaps they are injured players) have chosen to opt for a social membership. Please don't get annoyed when you are asked to pay the normal entrance fee.

The Committee!

Great acheivement by the United on Saturday beating Cleve 24-7. In the squad we had 5 Colts from last year (A Thompson, J Stewart, T Main, R Bennett, H Monelle) and 4 current Colts (D Price, N Barker, G Write & E Monelle). It was also great to see some players getting back to the form which made us a good United side from last year. There's still much to improve on, let's get this improved at Training and kick our season into gear.

Memberships are well overdue now! There remain quite a few players who still have not paid their membership for this season, also some that though not playing at present appear to think that they are exempt from paying if not playing - please be advised you should take a non-playing membership if you wish to use the facilites, including watching home matches, using the bar and gym. REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT INSURED TO PLAY UNTIL YOU HAVE PAID YOUR MEMBERSHIP. To all others that continue to use the club free of all charge - please consider that all members pay up to help the existence of the club - also those that continue to work for the club by gving up their time, supply goods and generally work for the club pay a membership too. Please stop being so selfish and pay your membership subs - if all did so it would help the coffers.

Although we had a number of regulars missing, the attitude was spot on from the start, and you thoroughly deserved your victory.

Plenty still to work on, particularly our discipline at the breakdown area.

NOTE !!!!!

The stands on both sides of the pitch and the players car park are OFF LIMITS with immediate effect following the carnage and disruption of Friday, Saturday and Monday nights.
This applies to club members as well as the hangers on that seem to gather.

There is no rugby at the moment and NO reason to hang around the stands.

Anyone found in the stand will be treated as an unwelcome unauthorised intruder and reported as such.
The police are acutely aware of the under age drinking by all including adolescent schoolgirls, general rowdyism and vandalism and have undertaken to support the club.

Im writing to all members to let you know that earlier this week, the Rugby Club launched its 'Corporate Supporters' Club, The club open to any business, local or national, will be limited to a maximum of 100 members.

For an annual fee of £300, any participating company will receive two complimentary tickets to each home game, a listing in the programme and a place on the corporate supporters board which will be situated in the clubhouse.

In addition, on the 12th July the club will host a drinks reception for the corporate supporters, at which a free raffle, containing 30 prizes, will take place. Prizes ranging from a free perimeter advertising board, to your company logo on the club polo shirts or the playing shirts or shorts, plus many others will be drawn.

Whilst the club's marketing and commercial team are working flat out to gain the support of businesses, if you think that your business or a business you know would be willing to support us, then please let us know.

Forms are available from Adele Tincknell (07764 691851) or myself (07949 349067).

Please dont just read this message and then forget about it. If 50 readers could sell 1 membership each, then I am confident we will get a full take up in the first year of the scheme, and this would provide a real boost for the rugby club.

Many thanks

Pete

Have just read your report on the Colts Plate final. As an Bury parent (and ex colts coach) I would just like to say how refreshing it is to read an unbiased report on a losing sides website!! I thought your correspondent was spot on, it was a great final, played in the true spirit of Colts rugby, and both teams were a credit to their club.
I think the best team did win (just!) but I have to admit that 3 more minutes on the refs watch would have produced a different winner. We were most fortunate to only have to travel an hour and a half, compared to your mammouth hike, and that certainly helped with supporter numbers for Bury.
A great occasion for both clubs, temepered slightly that Northampton forgot to provide any catering for the hungry masses.

Well done to all of the U12s for the way you have played this season. You have done the club proud with some of your performances especially the games against Old Reds and Winscombe (they don't like it up them Mr Mainwaring). The presentation night went off very well and congratulations to Tom, Billy, Chelsey and of course Billy Whiz (George). You have all worked really hard this season and thoroughly deserve your awards. Finally I know I said it last night but a huge thanks to Stumpy, Bushy, Tinks and Dover for the great job that you have done with the lads this year. I for one am certainly looking forward to the new season and hope that the lads will go on from strength to strength and prove that they are worthy of all the time and effort that the coaches put in.

Congratulations to the Under 16's on a well earned win in the Somerset Cup. I felt your first try was a little fortunate as the Vale backs failed to clear the ball but the young centre took his chance well and showed how dangerous he could be given a little space to run in. Once the Vale got over their obvious early nervousness they looked to be on equal terms for the rest of the game and may have taken the lead but for some committed tackling by Weston. The final score was the result of pure determination on the part of the Weston forwards and, whilst neither team deserved to lose, Weston can be proud of their success against a team that gave Taunton a lesson in 15-man rugby in the semi-final. Let's hope the two sides meet again in the Under 17s final next season!

We are arranging a trip to Irish Day at Bath Races on Saturday 16th June. Traditionally this is the biggest day of the year at Bath. There is a Guiness and Magners happy hour promotion that should get everyone into the Irish spirit, there will be a fantastic afternoon of racing to enjoy, followed by the best U2 tribute band around.

Many thanks to everyone who helped out on Saturday. Another good day at the club. We would like to make the Easter Weekend even bigger next year. i.e Friday maybe Colts, Saturday Vets and Sunday Juniors. For us to be able to do this we need to set up a committee of people. Anyone that is willing to help out could you let Bushy or me know. The more we get the easier it will be. Ever little helps.

Thanks for the hospitality on Sunday, we've certainly not been to a more friendly club.

The boys were 'wrecked' by the time they got back at around 10.00pm, physically and alcoholically!

It was a great game and a shame it ran away from us near the end, must have been the sea air.

One correction to your report, the Haywards Heath try was scored by the number 6, although he was shifting like a winger.

Good luck on your visit to Middlesborough, wherever that is!

Thanks again,

A H Heath parent.

On Saturday the 14s hosted Tycreos, the 11s Stourbridge, the 1st, 2nds and 4th were at home plus the internationals. On Sunday both the Colts and 16s made the next round of the Somerset Cup. A great weekend allround for the club but it does not happen without the support of club members. Thanks to all of you.

Membership - for those of you out there that have not paid your membership subs this year (you know who you are) and continue to play (or if injured socialise and use the facilities) it's about time you let the moths escape from your wallets and paid up. You should not continue to play as uninsured or use the club facilities. Stop taking the **** out of everyone else. If all took the same stance as you there would be no W-s-M RFC. Pay up.

Nice to hear from Mr Bennett, we are struggling for players in the Wanderers but a valient few have kept at it and despite letting the CLUB down each time we lose, we have turned up with whoever we can muster, MOSTLY Weston not as some like to make comment of, being bred down the road. We miss you mate, only cos were often 2 light in the pack and you filled BOTH places, or 2 light in the backs where you often fullfilled 12 & 13 at once, oh and 15!!! Any CLUB person willing to help us out let me know. Missing you loads and Miranda MORE.
PS The result at Winscombe may have something to do with a couple of visiting Welshmen, one from Neath the other an Osprey, they contributed significantly in the scoring records!!

Now that the festive season is well and truly over and remembering that the next social event at the club is on Feb 24th - the Irish night, could this possibly surpass the previous two - M*A*S*H and Mangled Wurzels...................or were they too good to follow? Hope as many as can get there, especially those that missed the first two, they really have no idea what great evenings they missed!!!!!

Hope you have all had a great festive break so far and looking forward to next years events??? I am sure with the things that have been planed for next year, we are all going to have a great time.
Many thanks to all those people who attended the club over the festive period.
I have to say though, that I am a little saddened by the attitude of some of the members.
A number of people took the time to complain about the opening hours of the club during Christmas and New Year period. These hours were then changed to suit. It was very disappointing that the club was open on Saturday 23 as requested and not one person attended. I opened the club myself (with a little help from Megan) on Christmas Eve, and thank you for to the small number that attended. The club was again open for the live Bristol v Bath game on Wednesday. Seven people watched. All in all I think disappointing. I am sure that if everyones efforts were more positive, we could all help in moving the club forward. I am sure that most people would agree that we have made some great strides in the right direction so far this season, with the help of a great deal of people. It would be great for us to be able to continue this. Let's not spoil what we have managed to achieve so far by moaning about things just for the sake of it. There seems little point in making the effort to complain about the club not being open and then not bothering to attend. Perhaps efforts would be better directed into more positive areas.
Anyway ending on a positive note many thanks to everyone who has helped this year so far. Thank you.

Top Gun Theme - I shall be coming as a barrage balloon, Rowlands, Lavender, Donny, Ginger and Bert are welcome to join me as you have made the effort already. Fish and Frank the obvious role of zepplins is yours for the taking, both of you being highly combustible and easy to spark off. Merry Christmas all.

Well done to Alex Luke and his lads! Good to finally see the U16 Bristol Combination Cup back in the club! Now go on and do the double! I remember the great feeling of 2003 when we won the U17 Somerset Cup and achieved the double. It was a special group of players to be involved with. Good to see a lot of them still involved in the club. My regards to the entire club and special mention for Perry and Ray hope you are both well!

Is there any chance of a few players training on tuesdays and thursdays? Thursday 7th December = 17 players out of 3 teams in leagues, Tuesday 12th December = 20 players out of 3 teams in leagues. i know its started raining and the nights are getting colder but we really need to start getting numbers at training.
Saturday 9th December the United were away to Old Pats in a merit table game, there was only 4 forwards and 3 backs at training on the Thursday from the side selected, not even giving us a chance of doing a team run.
Saturday came and we ended up with a bare 15 players for one reason or another and no-body bothered to start playing because we already had the points before the game, consequently we lost the game.
This all stems from not being at training so please, please, please for the players sake turn up if you say you are going to be there.
